Commonly Asked Questions About Yoga
Yoga is one of the best forms of exercise and moving meditation. It consists of breath control, meditation and the adoption of specific body postures which all coincide for the benefit of health and relaxation. If you are new to the world of yoga, you may have some questions.
Here are some of our commonly asked questions about yoga:
How many times a week do I have to practice? The benefits of yoga can be experienced whether you practice for one hour a week, or every day. As a beginner, it is suggested that one start two or three times per week and then work their way up. The more frequent yoga is practiced, the faster you will improve your skills and flexibility.
Do I have to be flexible to do yoga? No, you do not have to be flexible to practice yoga. Once you practice yoga for a period of time, you’ll naturally gain flexibility.
Can pregnant women participate in yoga? It is always important to consult your doctor before starting prenatal yoga. There are some restrictions for soon-to-be moms such as: practicing in a heated room and poses in which you lie flat on your back or that require a lot of abdominal stretching.
What equipment do I need? Yoga does not require much equipment in order to practice. Of course, there are some items that would be helpful to have which are: a high quality yoga mat, a sweat towel, and comfortable clothing that is non-restrictive. Although, none of these items are required.
Should I eat prior to practice? It is recommended that you eat a light meal two to three hours before practicing yoga. When practicing, we twist from side to side, turn upside down and bend both forward and backward. You may find yourself experiencing heartburn or discomfort if you haven’t fully digested your last meal.
