Based on the book by Gary Kraftsow, “Yoga for Wellness”, this workshop will introduce enthusiastic practitioners to the fundamental physiological purpose and goals of asana (the physical pose), along with breath-centered technique - a deeper understanding of how breath work (pranayama) plays a role in a “viniyoga” practice. Participants will have a chance to experience asana as an extension of breath, as breath and prana (life energy) are the animators of our bodies. We will learn how to use the breath to enhance the quality of our practice and use asana as a tool to support the body and mind for our every day lives and practices.
Suzanne Ballantyne, ERYT 200, is also a Certified Health & Wellness Coach with a background in Psychology and Educational Studies. Having practiced yoga for over 20 years, Suzanne completed her first yoga teacher training 9 years ago with Carson Efird at YogAsana in Raleigh, NC. Suzanne is now pursuing her 500 hour training with Gary Kraftsow, of the American Viniyoga Institute, at the ancient yoga center in Austin, TX. She is excited to share this practice and spread the word about the healing nature and lifestyle practices of viniyoga which has taught - and continues to teach - her how to use practice (sadhana) to preserve and sustain the body over the course of a lifetime, and what that looks like for each of us in different stages of our lives.
